Per to Peer networks and Piracy

I think that part of the reason as to why Peer to Peer networks(P2P) are still around, despite the threat of lawsuits and other legal action, is that the P2P networks were the first ones to come up with the idea and programs for file sharing. Now the record industry and the movie studios are trying to get to people to pay for songs and movies when we have been able to download them for free for several years now. Even if they are fairly inexpensive to download legally from some network, like iTunes, its very hard for them to compete with FREE. Just adding the word free to anything gets the attention of the average consumer, its the hope that the person will get something of value for no loss of anything on their part. I know that there is a lot of money spend on a new album and there is a huge amount of money spent on making a new movie and the studio or production company should not have to worry about their latest great hit showing up online the same day it is released in stores or at the theater. I also think that there will always be some sort of P2P network just because of consumer demand for the product.
